President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Maavashu Council last night as part of his ongoing visit to Laamu Atoll.

Members of Maavashu Council informed President Solih on the current work of the council, as well as difficulties faced by people of the island. The Council also communicated to the President, the wishes of the people of Maavashu with regard to future progress of the island.

Various talks were reportedly held regarding issues with housing as well as possible work that could be done to build tourism in the Atoll to provide employment opportunities for people in the island. In addition to that, discussions were also reportedly carried out regarding resolving the lack of space in the local school building as well as expanding healthcare and sports on the island.

The President reportedly expressed his wishes for both government and local Councils to work together on the progress of the island as well as on resolving the issues.

The Mavashu Council had offered full confidence that they would remain steadfast in the support of working with the government to bring progress to the people of the island.
