While the government had announced a loan scheme for students wishing to pursue higher education, a total of 314 students have been selected under the scheme.
The Ministry of Higher Education had published information on those selected for a loan scheme yesterday. As per the loan scheme of last august, loans have been awarded to those who are pursuing a higher education for the first time as well as those currently pursuing it now.
As such, the Ministry announced that a total of 282 students have been selected with full funding. A total of 113 students acquired loans to study in Maldives while 169 students acquired loans to pursue a higher education abroad.
The 282 students who acquired fully funded loans range from those in various areas pursuing diplomas to PhDs.
Among students who are currently in the process of pursuing their education, 32 students have acquired a loan while 11 students are studying in Maldives. The Ministry reported that the remaining 21 students are currently studying abroad.
The loans have been awarded to qualifying students, as announced last year in the 500 Loan Scheme. A total of 598 students were awarded loans last year under the government loan scheme.
