Security at Velana International Airport has been increased following an intelligence report.

Information Official of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Major Ibrahim Azim told One Online that the security at the airport had been strengthened since last night.

Security in the Maldives have been strengthened since the assassination attempt on the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed via an IED on the night of 6 May 2021.

And so, MNDF officers have been deployed alongside the Maldives Police Service to enforce a curfew on the Male' City area while MNDF has taken over the security of some buildings as well.
