Joint Committee of the National Security Committee and the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament has decided to remove the state officials whose names also appear on the list of people suspected to be involved in the corruption of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
The list in question was prepared by the Commission formed by the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to investigate corruption and recover state assets.
A Joint Committee of the National Security Committee and the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament was formed to look in to the progress of the Asset Recovery Commission and look in to the delays in the investigation.
The committee report states that a number of people involved in the largest corruption scandal in the nation's history are currently embedded in state positions.
They include state institutes, commissions, state-owned companies and other places. The report notes that there are those involved in the said corruption in positions.
As such the report notes that while the investigation is underway, all possible action against those who are on the list. The committee had passed to remove those officials from their posts in the government.
Eight recommendations were submitted in the committee report.
They had also passed to request the Asset Recovery Commission to speed up their investigation since many of those on the list are in influential positions within the government and could potentially tamper with evidence and hinder the investigation.
In their report, the committee also passed to request to expedite investigations against elected officials as they cannot be removed from power unless they voluntarily resign or are dismissed through a court ruling.
The report will now be submitted to the parliament, along with the recommendations.
