A foreigner who consulted a doctor at the Lhaviyani Atoll Hinnavaru Flu Clinic has tested positive for COVID-19.

President of the Hinnavaru Island Council, Abdulla Ibrahim told One Online that the person who tested positive is a Bangladeshi national.

He said that so far it is unclear how the Bangladeshi man contracted the illness but an investigation is underway along with the contact tracing procedure.

The Hinnavaru Island Council President said that the island has been placed under monitoring so far but they are currently working with the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Hinnavaru has been under monitoring before, there 44 islands under monitoring at the moment due to COVID.

While the alarm on the threat of COVID-19 has been louder recently, there has been over 1,000 COVID cases daily since Sunday. And 87 people have passed away due to complications so far in the Maldives.
