A curfew has been set in the Male' City area from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) made the announcement on Twitter saying that as part of their efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, a curfew will be imposed in the Greater Malé Area that (Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimalé) from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. starting from 12 May 2021, for the duration of 1 week.
A curfew regarding the COVID-19 pandemic was first implemented on 2 April 2020 which lasted a week. And there has been similar extended curfews throughout the year. It was lifted on 18 December 2020 when the number of cases started to go down.
However, cases started to rise after a month which left to curfews four hours a day. It was then increased to five hours and implemented over several days.
Curfew hours has been increased to 12 hours after the daily number of COVID cases have exceeded over 1,000 in the past two days.
