President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that with the current development of Velana International Airport, the airport will fill up within the next five years.

It was previously reported that the airport was being developed to serve seven million passengers.

President Solih addressed the press at a press event at the Office of the President today. He refuted that the airport can accommodate seven million people and said that the capacity is in reality 3.5 million people.

The President said that airports are not only place of landing and taking off flights. He also said that airports are a place that is separately marketed and sold.

He said that there is no terminal floor plan for the mega project of developing the airport and that the drawings for the construction were not complete at the time the columns were built.
