Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology has been dissolved.
The President's Office said that the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih dissolved the institute today.
Before dissolving, the name of the Environment Ministry was been changed and the Policy Secretary the President's Office, Aminath Shauna, was appointed as the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. And the former Minister of Environment and Energy, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture. And the vacant position of Policy Secretary at the President's Office was filled today by Ahmed Hameed upon the appointment by the President
The President's Office said that the administrative reorganization of the government comes under President Solih’s efforts to improve and strengthen public services and ensure the delivery of the administration’s pledges.
The Communication Ministry has been dissolved after the former Minister at the institute, Mohamed Maleeh Jamal was removed from office by the Parliament after failing to lower the price of internet. Since Maleeh, who was on a Jumhoory Party slot for the coalition government, was removed, Economic Minister, Fayyaaz Ismail was placed in charge temporarily.
Communication Ministry has been dissolved while talks were underway with communication companies. Minister Fayyaaz has recently said that good changes will be coming soon.
With the dissolving of the Ministry the, talks will now be lead by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
With the dissolution of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology is mandated with undertaking the functions and responsibilities of the dissolved office. The staff would also be transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
The President made the decision under powers vested upon him in Article 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.
