Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed has ordered an inquiry into the allegations of excessive force used by the Maldives Police Service in dispensing the protest rally against sexual harassment in the workplace, held in Male' City last night.
The rally organized by the youth movement ,"Rise Up MV", began at the Rasfannu area with about 20 people expressing themselves using megaphones and they were coming down Majeedhee Magu when they were obstructed by the police near Sun Front store.
Images and videos of excessive forced used by the police in dispersing the small crowd have flooded social media since last night.
Commissioner of Police took to Twitter this morning stating that he understands the public concerns and so an inquiry into the policing last night during the protest and into the circumstances and actions of the officers is being carried out by the Professional Standard Command.
