The Minister of Foreign, Affairs Abdulla Shahid, has said that the political and democratic stability of a stronger Maldives is integral to ensure the security of the Indian Ocean.

The Minister made th remark on his ongoing visit to the US capital, Washington DC. Minister Shahid had held talks with officials of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in DC. He said that maintaining the security of the Indian Ocean is also integral to the security of Maldives.

Shahid had also highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Maldives and the United States in an effort to ensure the security within the Indian Ocean.

The Maldivian Foreign Minister said that a partnership between the two countries will be significant for the security of the entire South Asian region. The Minister also highlighted that such a bond between US and Maldives will further strengthen the political system in Maldives.
