President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that in the 127 year old history of the Maldives, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has shown that the officers of the institution will never resort to treason.

President Solih made the remarks while speaking at the oath taking ceremony of the 64th class of MNDF Basic Training Course last night. He further said that a member of the MNDF should never forget that they are in fact a member of the National Defense Force for even one moment of their lives.

President Solih said that the cadets that swore in the ceremony last night have now joined the noblest and most proud family of this nation. He said that the straight lines of the Defense Force officers show an honest, loyal and honorable people. The President noted that the 127 year old military history of this country is an indication that the MNDF will never resort to treason.

President Solih said that the most important group of people required to maintain the sovereignty of a country is an army made up of valiant soldiers. He noted that the most important duty of MNDF officers is not always to wage war and said that the contentment gained from maintaining and ensuring peace is more important than going to war.

President Solih noted that martyr Sultan Ali IV, the Utheemu Brothers and Dhon Bandaarain are freedom fighters similar to MNDF officers who fought for the rights of this nation. President Solih also said that the Maldivian hero, the late officer, Hussain Adam, sacrificed himself for this nation in a moment of bravery and valiance.

President Solih said that MNDF is the main reason that this country is able to independently and peacefully breathe on a global scale. He further said that the work of MNDF in national security and maintaining peace is absolutely invaluable to this nation.
