Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has said that only 19,000 households have registered for waste collection in Male' City.

Speaking on Raajje TV's Falasurukhee program last night, the Managing Director of WAMCO, Adam Mohamed said that the month of Ramadan increases the waste generated by households and this month, the waste has quadrupled.

He said that this employees are taking on the load and the work is barely completed by Suhoor.

The WAMCO Managing Director said that many households are using their services without registration and advised them to register.

"19,000 households are registered. Other 50 percent people are not registered." Adam Mohamed said. "There are about 50,000 household and about 34,000 are unregistered."

Managing Director of WAMCO said that the registration fee for their services is a very small amount. And since the company has numerous employees, there are challenges to low income.

He said that from 34,000 households, WAMCO is generating about MVR 6.2 million however, they are currently generating MVR 1.5 million.

Adam Mohamed also advised the public to bring out the waste at the allocated time.
