Two people in Lhaviyani Atoll Kurendhoo has tested positive for COVID-19 marking a spread of COVID across the entire Atoll.

Senior Administrator at the Kurendhoo Health Center, Ibrahim Mohamed confirmed to One Online today that two people have tested positive on the island and said that the two cases are related to the Naifaru cluster. The two people who tested positive in Kurendhoo includes a child as well.

While COVID-19 has spread across the Lhaviyani Atoll, every island in the atoll has been placed under monitoring except for Kurendhoo.

The Kurendhoo Health Center Administrator said that contact tracing is underway at the island and as a measure to stop further spread, the public has been advised to stay indoors except for essential needs.

An official from the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) told One Online today that there have been no reports of a positive case from Kurendhoo so the island is not currently under monitoring.

So far it has been unclear as to how COVID-19 went to the Lhaviyani Atoll. However, a large number of people have tested positive in Lh. Felivaru and a number of people who came in to contact with them have tested positive as well.
