The Parliament Committee for Human Rights and Gender has decided to summon the Maldives Police Service and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services regarding the rape of a 14-year-old in Raa Atoll Maduvvari.
Proposing the summoning of the two institutes, the Committee member, the MP for Addu Meedhoo constituency, Rozaina Adam requested that the session be held behind closed doors.
Along with the police and the Gender Ministry, the medical team involved in the investigation is also being summoned to the committee.
Speaking on the case, the Chair of the Committee, the MP for Hinnavaru constituency, Jeehan Mahmood said that regarding the accused in the case, the Education Ministry also needs to be part of the inquiry. And since the case have been presented to a law firm, they would be part of the meeting to share the details along with the family of the victim.
MP Jeehan asked the Committee Secretariat to arrange their transfer as soon as possible.
The people of Maduvvari came out against the police presence on the island on Thursday night for not arresting the accused in the rape of a 14-year-old child.
Four people were arrested following the confrontation between the public and the police.
