The Chairperson of the Presidential Commission on Disappearances and Deaths, Husnu Al Suood, has said that his comments have yielded an unexpected turn of events. Suood had claimed that local hangs were influencing the Criminal Court of Maldives. Criminal Court had then announced their decision to assemble a Judges’ Council to investigate Suood’s allegations.
Suood gave his response in a tweet, and stated that he had been proven wrong in his initial expectations. He said that he had expected retaliation for his comments from the local gangs instead of the courts.
While Suood had made claims connecting the courts to gangs, the Judicial Service Commission had assembled a separate committee to investigate his claims. The Criminal Court had then assembled a panel of Judges after questioning Suood and announced that a preliminary hearing will be held today.
