The Maldives Police Service has decided to reopen and investigate allegations against former Minister for Defense Colonel (Rtd) Nazim. Nazim was accused of holding weapons in his house and had been arrested and tried regarding the case in the previous administration.
Police had tweeted last night that a decision has been taken to reopen the investigation upon Nazim’s request.
The former Minister for Defense faced a verdict on 27 May 2015, sentencing him to prison for 11 years for allegedly having a pistol in his apartment. The Supreme Court overturned the conviction on 13 December 2018.
Colonel (Rtd) Nazim had submitted a case to the Police claiming that he had been framed within this week. Nazim said that the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Hameed had assured Nazim that the case will be investigated.
