Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, has departed on a follow-up visit to the UAE. The Minister said that this current visit will involve following up on the matters discussed by President Solih and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. President Solih and government officials had recently concluded an official visit to the UAE.
The Minister said that current trip will involve seeking UAE’s assistance and cooperation in implementing the matters mentioned in President Solih’s manifesto.
The Minister will be visiting the United States capital, Washington DC, following the trip to UAE. Shahid said that the visit to America will strengthen ties between the governments of Maldives and the US. He reiterated that this trip is part of ensuring that Maldives re-enters the global diplomatic stage.
Minister Shahid is also set to conduct an official visit upon an invitation of the President of the United Nations Security Council. The Minister reported that he will be representing Maldives in an environmental debate held by the council. Following this visit, the Minister will also be visiting the Foreign Affairs offices in London, England upon an invitation to take part in discussions concerning the topic of democracy, held at the office.
It has been reported that three other Ministers will be taking part on this official visit.
