Kaafu Atoll Huraa has been placed under a monitoring status after a man brought to Male' City tested positive for COVID-19.

Confirming the situation to One Online, the President of the Huraa Island Council, Eesa Ahmed said that a 72-year-old local man was transferred from the island to Male' City for further testing due to poor health.

He said that the elderly man does not travel around a lot but there are reports of him going to Hinmafushi in the same Atoll. However, the man was having gastric issues and a general feeling of being unwell which led to him being transported to the capital. Eesa said that there was no suspicion of COVID-19 when the transfer was arranged.

The Huraa Island Council President said that the confirmation of the COVID-19 case has placed the island under monitoring and contact tracing is underway. So far, 11 contacts have been found while random samples are being collected for COVID-19 testing.
