Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath  Nahula, has said that the frequency of road accidents can only be decreased through civic responsibility.

The Minister said this in a tweet and reiterated that the accidents can be prevented by prioritizing the safety of others over one's own familiarity with driving. She also noted that obeying road rules and regulations is of utmost importance.

The Minister said that she has been deeply saddened by the recent uptick of road accidents. She advised all people on the roads to put safety first and to take up civic responsibility.  

There has been an unprecedented increase in accidents in Male’ and the Atolls recently. As such, while a 17 year old boy lost his life in a fatal accident, another accident on the Laamu Atoll Link Road has also resulted in severe injuries.

In addition to that, while another accident had taken place in Male’ on Saturday evening, an additional accident took place on Saturday night. The second accident involved three people and resulted in severe injuries while one of the people have been reported to be in critical condition. Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital informed that the patient had reportedly been transferred from the hospital to ADK Hospital for surgery.
