Opposition Coalition has said that despite the order from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) for those who have traveled out of Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru to quarantine, the delegation including high ranking government officials who visited the island in the time frame did not quarantine.
HPA has requested that those who traveled out of Ungoofaaru after 2 March 2021 to report it to the hospital of the island they are currently in. And those who have traveled out of the island in the past ten days are to test for COVID-19 and complete a ten-day quarantine.
And so, the government delegation who went to Ungoofaaru on 8 March for inauguration of the new building project at the Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital and returned on the same day does not have to quarantine since it has been over ten days.
A statement issued by the opposition last night raising concerns after COVID-19 was confirmed at Ungoofaaru, said that they call on the relevant government authorities to strengthen the measures on the island against the spread of COVID-19.
The statement also raised concerns that the government delegation was exempt from the quarantine since COVID in Ungoofaaru also could potentially endanger the entire atoll.
Opposition also called to implement safety measures equally as a similar, authorized travel cause a cluster in Addu City.
