Former Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Mohamed Maleeh Jamal has said that the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed collecting two remunerations as the Speaker cannot be hidden anymore and must be filed at the Parliament.

The two remunerations in question are the allowance for former Presidents and the salary for the Speaker of the Parliament.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, Maleeh said that a term of a President is five years but Nasheed was President for two and a half years and collecting the allowance of a president is treason. He also said that Nasheed has been collecting more than double of the MVR 100,000 allowance for former Presidents.

Maleeh said that the few available information show MVR 265,419.70 being taken from the people every month and he would find the breakdown of this income and expose it. He also said that this is an amount that could bring 17 people out of poverty every month.

According to the President's Act, a person who has completed one term of presidency receives MVR 50,000 every month and MVR 75,000 if it's more than one term. And they are also to receive an allowance for all housing expenses up to MVR 50,000.
