President Ibrahim Mohamed Soilh has concluded his state-visit to Bangladesh, accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and his delegation comprised of top government officials.
The President visited the People's Republic of Bangladesh on a two-day state visit, attending the official ceremony to commemorate the "Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman." He attended the ceremony held in the National Parade Grounds, Dhaka, as the guest of honor by invitation of the President of Bangladesh, Md. Abdul Hamid. President Solih spoke during the ceremony on the value of remembering Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's legacy. Praising Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the heroic efforts that were instrumental in securing an independent destiny for the Bangladeshi people, the President said that his legacy will remain a source of inspiration for many generations to come.
He also visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial, a prominent national monument honoring all those who sacrificed their lives during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. He next visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, previously the home of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, now a monument celebrating his lifetime of accomplishments and struggles.
As part of his state visit, President Solih participated in bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, at the Prime Minister’s office. wher the two leaders engaged in productive discussions on further enhancing existing relations and extending cooperation across multiple sectors. Later, the President and Prime Minister presided over the signing of four agreements aimed at bolstering mutual cooperation to further enhance existing bilateral ties between the two nations. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Dr A.K Abdul Momen, held a joint press conference the same afternoon as part of the state visit's activities.
Prior to their departure, the President and First Lady attended an official banquet hosted by the Bangladeshi President, as his honored guests, at the Presidential Palace of Bangladesh this evening. President Solih paid a call on the Bangladeshi President and First Lady Fazna Ahmed had a separate call with the First Lady of Bangladesh, Rashida Hamid, before joining the Presidents for the banquet. A cultural show was presented during the banquet and President Solih also signed the Visitor's Book at the Bangladeshi President's Palace.
