The national airline, Maldivian has decided to start direct flights between Noonu Atoll Maafaru and Mumbai, India.

The decision was announced by the Managing Director of Maldivian Aero, Mohamed Mihad announced at a press conference this morning. He said that the first direct flight from Mumbai is set to land in Maafaru on 13 April 2021.

Maldivian Aero said that the final preparations to start the flight operations from India to Maafaru are currently being made. And the discussions are being held with guest houses and resorts in the region.

Highlighting that Maafaru Airport was developed in an area with around 2,000 tourist beds, Mihad said that the direct flights between Maafaru and Mumbai are set to start off with three flights a week. And flights are set to begin to another Indian city very soon as well.
