A total of 23 people have been taken into the custody of the Maldives Police Service from the opposition protest rally today.
The opposition coalition of PPM and PNC have been holding protest rallies on Fridays including today.
Police said that 23 people were taken into custody today including the President of PNC and acting Head of the Progressive Coalition, Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey).
The Green Zone and the area around the PPM Office was closed down before the protest began today and the security measures were strengthened.
Due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in the Male' City area, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned public gatherings and gathering of more than five people. And the police has previously said that they will be taking action against those who are violating the HPA guidelines.
