The Deputy Managing Director of Maldive Gas, Ali Ikram has resigned from his position.
The SOE Committee of the Parliament ordered his suspension on 2 February following allegations of sexual harassment.
The suspension was extended until the Maldives Police Service and the Harassment Committee at Maldive Gas completed their investigations and while the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament completes their procedures.
Facing the criticism of many following the allegations, Ikram resigned from his position today. He told One Online today that he resigned due to personal reasons. Regarding the allegations, Ikram said that they are false and he is confident that they will be proven false.
He is also being accused of a corruption of MVR 16 million in Maldive Gas buying oxygen cylinders and has stated that no corruption took place.
When summoned to the State Owned Enterprises Committee (SOE Committee) of the Parliament, Ikram said that there are issues with the audit regarding the oxygen cylinders purchase. He said there are people behind it trying to frame him.
He said that the higher price than the price approved to order the cylinders are on the audit report and pointed his accusation to those who prepared the report.
