A newspaper in neighboring country India reported that the current Ambassador of India to Maldives Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, has been replaced and that a new ambassador has been assigned to Maldives.

‘The Hindu’ newspaper reported that sources at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs have revealed that the Ambassador to Maldives has been replaced. The newspaper reported that the change was carried out as part of efforts to strengthen ties with the new administration in Maldives. Reportedly, the newly assigned Ambassador to Maldives is currently the Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Sunjay Sudhir.

“The Hindu” noted that strengthening ties with neighboring country Maldives is of paramount importance.

The newspaper reported that the Indian Ministry of External Affairs will be re-assigning Ambassadors of  Bhutan, South Africa, Mexico, New Zealand, Israel and 20 other nations, starting this month.

The article in “The Hindu” did not specify the exact date the Ambassador to Maldives will be reassigned. It did however note that the former Minister for Education and current Maldivian Ambassador to India Ms. Aishath Mohamed Didi had already arrived in Delhi and begun her work.

The current Ambassador of India to Maldives is Mr. Akhilesh Mishra who was assigned to the post in 2016.
