President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has said that the budget needed to hold the Local Council Election and the Women's Committees Election on 10 April has been reduced from MVR 42.8 million to MVR 29.8 million.
He said that the budget has been reduced upon the request from the Parliament's Finance Committee to make deductions from the budget of MVR 42.8 million.
Talking to One Online, Shareef said that the budget has been re submitted to the committee after the reduction. And the Committee has sent the budget to the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
The President of the Elections Commission said that there are challenges that arise due to the delay in receiving the funding and requested that the budget be approved as soon as possible.
The special Act on the Council Election passed by the parliament states that the elections need to be held before 9 May 2021.
