Maldives Police Service has taken 17 people into their custody at the protest rally led by the opposition, Progressive Coalition.
Police has previously said that they would not allow protest rallies and gatherings to take place in Male' City. Before the rally began today, police secured the Green Zone and the area around the PPM Office.
A large number of police officers were working to disperse the opposition rally today.
While a national health emergency have been declared in the country, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned rallies, functions and public gatherings of more than five people in Male' City.
Police has said that they will be enforcing the HPA guidelines and legal action will be taken against those who violate the guidelines.
