Former Secretary General of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and close associate of former President Yameen, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has said that the Leader of the Jumhoory Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim, does not have the DNA of MDP. He said that no one can work with Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for too long and that PPM is prepared for discussions with Qasim.

Speaking to One Online last night, Shareef said that the current political arena is made up two philosophies; one is of MDP and the other is of anyone who disagrees with the party. He said therefore that two groups under these philosophies can only work together for a short period of time and that it cannot last long. He reiterated that Qasim will not be able to tolerate as much as he did the previous time.

The former PPM Secretary General said that Qasim is not MDP’s DNA and that he will not be able to tolerate them. He also said that no one other than Qasim could have come this far with MDP.

Shareef said that the official opposition party is PPM and that Qasim’s Jumhooree Party (JP) is part of the government due to the coalition.

He said that the people who are criticizing Qasim are MDP’s activists and that members of MDP have big egos and high demands. He reiterated that there have always been a relationship with Qasim and PPM members. Shareef also said that both parties have carried on holding discussions on significant matters. He further said that the relationship had been the same even after Qasim was elected as Speaker of Parliament.

While Shareef has said this, Qasim Ibrahim had tweeted in response to MDP running for all constituencies except one in the upcoming Parliamentary election. Qasim said in his tweet that JP is prepared to go against MDP and join hands with other parties to face the upcoming Parliamentary elections. He also said that MDP had thrown away JP after winning the presidency through the coalition.
