Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem is being summoned to the Parliament's Judiciary Committee to be inquired following the Parliament's female MP's motion to look into why the the former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed, who has been charged with sexual harassment and misconduct, was allowed to leave the country.
The PG is being summoned to the committee at 2 p.m. today.
Following the allegations against Ali Waheed by his employees, the former Tourism Minister had his passport withheld and banned from leaving the country. However, when his legal representation request a medical visit abroad, it was granted and the passport was released. And with that, Ali Waheed left the country on 10 February 2021.
Female MP's of the parliament, Eva Abdulla, Nissan Hussain, Rozaina Adam and Keegan Mahmood, all signed a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed requesting an investigation as to why Waheed was allowed to leave the country.
Speaker Nasheed then asked the Parliament's Judiciary Committee to make an inquiry.
While PG Shameem is being summoned to committee today, the Prosecutor General's Office had appealed the release at the High Court.
