The number of people who has tested positive for COVID-19 from the cluster found in Fuvahmulah City has reached 28.

Speaking at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) press conference last night, the Director of the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Ahmed Naasir said that another person have tested positive from the Fuvahmulah City cluster raising the total to 28.

Fuvahmulah City reported its first case on 7 February following a random sample test. The person was in quarantine at the time after returning to the country from Dubai.

The city is currently under a monitoring state and more strict measures are being enforced to prevent further spread including a ban on public and private events, gatherings of more than three people, visiting other houses along with a vehicle ban from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. while salons and gyms have been ordered to close down.

All sporting and exercise events have also been ordered to cancel while universities, collages and schools have been ordered to stop holding classes in person.

Café and restaurants are also ordered to suspend in-house services.
