The imports and exports along with their profits has dropped this past January compared to the January of 2020.
Statistics from the Customs Service show MVR 3.8 billion worth of goods were imported in January last year compared to 2.9 billion of last month making it a 24 percent drop.
The Customs statistics also show the state made a profit of MVR 272 million from the January last year and this year, in the same time frame, a 12 percent drop of MVR 240 million was made to the state.
A 25 percent drop was observed in January exports with MVR 316 million worth of goods were exported while last year saw goods worth of MVR 420 million were exported in January.
The highest number of imports last month came in from UAE, China and Oman. Goods worth of MVR 386 million were imported from UAE while MVR 365 million worth of goods were imported from China and MVR 364 million worth of goods were imported from Oman.
Highest exports last month was to Thailand with 32 percent of the exports, while 10 percent of the exports went to Germany and 8 percent to the UK.
