Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the Local Council Election will be taking place on 10 April as scheduled and no changes will be brought to that.

Starting the fifth session of the first term of the year, the Speaker Nasheed has made the remark in regards a letter sent to him by the Elections Commission expressing the challenges of holding the Election.

Making a joke out of the letter from the Elections Commission, Speaker Nasheed said that the Commission's complaints are equal to that of his children when it comes to homework.

Nasheed said that currently, there is no other choice but to hold the election on the set date.

Elections Commission set 10 April as the date for the Local Council Election under the most recent change to the special Local Council Election Act.

President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has previously said that they would raise the concerns of the challenges with the budget and the guidelines from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) for the election amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with the parliament.
