Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail as said that the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing at a worrying rate and if they continue to rise, more difficult measures may be required.

Taking to Twitter last night, Minister Fayyaz said that “COVID-19 cases are increasing alarmingly and ultimately will lead to overwhelming the system if we don’t become more vigilant in ensuring safe measures are strictly adhered to. If not this will lead to hard and difficult choices being made”.

While the Economic Minister has raised concerns, there has been a recent spike in the number of COVID cases with number over 100 cases a day.

Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) said that a new variant of COVID-19 in the country which has increased cases and more restrictions have been placed in the Male’ City area including a curfew.
