Tourism Minister: Maldives will become first country to start vaccine tourism

Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has said that if the Health Protection Agency (HPA) makes the necessary arrangements, Maldives will become a country to start vaccine tourism.

Responding to a question from the MP for Hoarafushi constituency, Ahmed Saleem at the parliament today, Dr. Mausoom said that introducing vaccine tourism is also being thought about by the President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

And so, it can be introduced as Visit, Vacation, Vaccine, according to the Tourism Minister.

However, he said, according to the current immigration laws, tourist visa cannot get more than 30 days. And in that line of operation, tourists must be facilitated to stay longer since the second dose of vaccines are to be given after 3-4 weeks after the initial dose.

Dr. Mausoom said that if changes are made to allow tourists to stay longer and if the HPA arranges the acquisition of vaccines amid the challenges, Maldives can become a country to start vaccination tourism.
