Ministry of Tourism stated that 1, 484, 271 tourists visited Maldives last year.
Minister for Tourism Ali Waheed, spoke at a press conference today stating that this is a record-breaking number of tourists visiting the country. It is a 6.8 percent increase from the amount of tourists that visited Maldives in 2017.
The Ministry's statistics showed that the most tourist-arrivals to Maldives were from Europe and that they accounted for more than 48.9 per cent of all tourists that visited last year.
Minister Ali Waheed said that the most amount of tourists from a single country were from China. He said that Chinese nationals account for 19.1 per cent of all tourists that arrived in Maldives last year. The second highest number of tourists arrived from Germany.
While large numbers of tourists visited Maldives last year, the Ministry reported that there were a total of 44, 860 beds in all tourist facilities. Waheed noted that this accounts for all the beds in resorts, guesthouses and safaris.
