The Maldivian government has taken a directive to inspect all tourist resorts, guesthouses, hotels and safaris operated in the country.
The Minister for Tourism Ali Waheed spoke at a press conference held at the Ministry today. He said that all tourist facilities will be inspected within the next six to eight months.
Ali Waheed stressed that the decision to inspect facilities was not taken against any one place. He noted that the intention of the Ministry is to find and address problematic areas on these facilities.
Ali Waheed noted the recent fatal and tragic incidents concerning tourists in Maldives. He said that the directive was taken under advice from President Ibrahim Solih to ensure that similar incidents are not repeated.
