Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that while a third wave of COVID-19 has hit the country, this is not the time for the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Health Ministry to create more procedures but to vaccinate and control COVID.

Nasheed, who is also the President of MDP, has made the remark after daily COVID-19 cases in the country has gone over 200 and experts have declared a third wave in Maldives.

Taking to Twitter, the Speaker of Parliament, he said that closing schools and borders are not the smart thing to do and it is more important to control COVID through vaccinations.

A nation-wide COVID vaccination program was launched in the Maldives yesterday where the President, Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice all received the first dose of the vaccine. So far, 282 people have been vaccinated so far.
