President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.

Following the special ceremony to launch vaccinations in the country, the President got the first dose of the COVID vaccine around 9:30 a.m. becoming the fourth person to get the vaccine in the country.

The President went through the normal pre-vaccine procedure and spent the required post-vaccine 15 minutes at the vaccination center.

At the ceremony, President Solih advised the public to get vaccinated and that the public cooperation is required to for the program.

The first person to get vaccinated in the Maldives was the Head of the Hulhumale’ Facility, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s (IGMH) Dr. Shirani Abdul Rahman.

Speaker of Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed and the Chief Justice, Ahmed Muhtasim Adnan also got vaccinated this morning. From today onwards, vaccination of frontline health workers, military and police officers.

Two doses of the Covishield vaccine is set to be given to 50,000 people. Vaccination program has been launched in Addu City and Kulhudhuffushi City as well.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem said that vaccination will be taking place in all inhabited islands through the health facilities with the target of 10,000 vaccinations a day.
