Contractors sought to develop airports in four islands

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has announced tenders to develop airports in four islands.

The announcement by the Ministry last night said that as per request from the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the opportunity is open to submit Expression of Interests (EOIs) from eligible contractors to develop airports in Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo, Thaa Atoll Vilufushi, Shaviyani Atoll Bilehfahi and Haa Dhaalu Atoll Makunudhoo.

The Ministry announcement also said that contractors can apply for more than one lot and the terms of reference will be available from the ministry’s website starting from 31 January. Shortlisted candidates based on their EOIs will received he chance to submit proposals after 15 February.

Finance Ministry said that before receiving proposals, the conditions under the foreign direct investment policy regulations have to be verified.

Ensuring 20-minute transport from every inhabited island is a campaign oath of the current administration. While there are 14 domestic airports and three international airports in the country, the airport development in Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathodaa, contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is moving forward towards this goal.
