Vice President of the Elections Commission (EC) Ismail Habeeb has said that Civil Service employees running in the upcoming Local Council Elections will be suspended from work starting tomorrow.

As per the latest amendment to the Councils Act, the Elections Commission will be mobilizing the preparations for the Local Council Election tomorrow.

In a tweet sent out today, Habeeb said that the civil servants that would be suspended for the Council Election will be notified by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The Local Council Elections regulations states that CSC employees running in the election will be suspended from their CSC job from the moment the Elections Commission declares them as candidates. And the suspension will be lifted for those who fail win in the election.

The election initially set for April 2020 have been delayed numerous times before finally being set for 10 April 2021 after the parliament decision.
