Public banned from the streets from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. as a new curfew time has been established in the Male’ City area.

A directive issued by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) last night signed by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Abubakr, ordered the curfew.

The capital city has seen numerous curfews amid the COVID-19 pandemic the long curfews since March 2020 were shorten late last year and finally lifted entirely on 18 December.

Along with the new curfew, parties and ceremonies would be illegal in the Male’ area. And starting today, those traveling from the city to other islands have to quarantine for ten days while those who come to the city have to quarantine for ten days starting from Friday with tourists being the exception.

HPA have implemented strict measures after a spike of daily reported cases of COVID-19 in the city. And so, the average daily figures over 100 this week with 108 on Sunday, 109 on Monday and 145 caes yesterday.
