The opposition coalition of PPM and PNC party, Progressive Congress, has taken to the streets calling to hold the Local Council Election as soon as possible.

The protesters gathered near the Election's Commission premises around 12:45pm today, demanding for the release of the opposition leader Abdulla Yameen and to hold the Local Council Elections as soon as possible. Police were seen actively trying to disperse protesters.

PPM and PNC leadership, senior officials and supporters took part in the protest today.

The protests comes after High Court upheld the verdcit to imprison former President and opposition leader, Abdulla Yameen.
