Two people have been arrested with illegal drugs in a drug operation by the Maldives Police Service.

Police that the operation was carried out by the Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo Police Station, Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru Police Station and Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo Police Station where two locals were arrested.

From the two people in custody, the 31-year-old suspect was arrested on the Kaashidhoo harbor n 21 January 2021 following a report to police intelligence about drugs being smuggled from Male’ City to Kaashidhoo. The suspect was stopped and searched to find a plastic packet containing suspected drugs.

The Ungoofaaru operation was similarly conducted after a report about drugs being smuggled from Male’ City to Rasgatheem on a boat. And so, two rubber packets of drugs were found inside a box that was offloaded to the island which led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man.

And a report about drugs on a boat going from Male’ to Thulhaadhoo led to a search of the vessel to find 87 pieces of cellophane. However, no arrests have been made in this case so far.

The two people arrested in the operations have been remanded by find days while the police continue to investigate.
