CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Adam Azim has said that the high-speed ferry network would reduce 30-minute journeys down to ten minutes.
The government had contracted the first phase of the Integrated National Public Ferry Network.
Speaking on the details of the project on Raajje TV’s “Falasurukhee” program last night, the MTCC CEO said that the connectivity among the islands are important to develop the economy of the country. And the high-speed ferry service that would be provided by MTCC would be fast and safe service.
The first phase of the project entails a ferry network to connect all 41 islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Shaviyani Atoll with 14 speed bats and three back-up launches.
Azim said that the launches that would be used would be able to travel 35 km per hour with a capacity of 40 passengers and would be equipped with air-conditioning and television.
MTCC aims to provide the service at the end of September 2021.
