Over 50,000 tourists have visited the Maldives in the first 17 days of 2021.

Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, show that as of Sunday, 17 January, 50,611 tourists have visited the country. The figure is a significant increase from the 21,515 visitors in October and 35,759 tourists from November of 2020.

The Ministry statistics also show that during this period, the highest number of tourists have visited from Russia with 12,029 tourists. Russia was the second largest market for Maldivian tourism last year.

From he top market last year, India, so far 8,042 tourists have visited the Maldives this year followed by 4,292 tourists from the Ukraine.

Aside from Russia, India and the Ukraine, a number of tourists visited from Kazakhstan, Romania, France, UK, Germany, USA and Switzerland.
