Auditor General's Office has said that the former President Yameen had only submitted financial statements on two separate occasions during his 5 year term.
According to Article 20 of the Constitution, the President, Vice President and the cabinet of Maldives are required to submit asset declarations to the Auditor General.
The Audit Office has published information regarding the submission of financial statements from 17 November 2013 till 17 November 2018. As such, the office has now published the financial statements of officials who had successfully completed submissions. The office has also announced the officials who had failed to submit financial documents.
According to the report by the Auditor General's Office the only times ex-president Yameen submitted financial documents were on 2014 and 2018. The office also reported that the last financial declaration of assets were submitted by President Yameen, two days before the official end of his term.
There were three different Vice Presidents that served under President Yameen's administration. The first Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, had only submitted documents on 2014. Dr. Jameel had left his post as VP around mid-2015.
The second VP of Yameen's administration was Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor. Adeeb had also served as the Minister for Tourism for three years. According to the Audit Office, he had not submitted any statements within any of these years.
The VP that served within the last 3 years of President Yameen's administration was Abdullah Jihad. He had also served as the Minister of Finance for three years prior. The Audit Office reported that Jihad had also not submitted any statements throughout the terms.
The report published by the Audit Office declared that seven of President Yameen's cabinet had never submitted any financial documents.
The names of the cabinet members include Minister of Economics Mohamed Saeed, first appointed Minister for Youth, Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, the following Minister for Youth Iruthisham Adam and Minister for Health Abdulla Nazim. The Audit Office revealed more names of cabinet members who failed to declare their assets. The members include Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed, Minister for Transport Ameen Ibrahim and Minister for Defense Moosa Ali Jaleel.
