Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has said that Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has still not returned MVR 80 million borrowed to purchase US Dollars.

CEO of MPL Mr. Shahid Ali spoke to the press conference today saying that MPL is therefore involved in MMPRC's recent corruption scandal.

Shahid reported that MMPRC borrowed a total of MVR 165 million and that MVR 80 million is still owed to MPL. He reiterated that MPL is currently working towards repossessing the remaining amount owed.

Shahid stressed that MPL will be taking any legal measures necessary to get back the money owed by MMPRC.

He noted that there is no employee at MPL against whom charges of corruption can be raised. He also said that any employee of MPL found to have any involvement with corruption will be immediately fired.

Shahid said that the auditing process within MPL will be made stronger, as an anti-corruption measure.
