Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Patricia Espinosa, has praised the Maldives on the ambitious net-zero target on the National Determinant Contribution (NDC).

She congratulated the Maldivian Ministry of Environment and Energy, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan in a letter in which the country’s efforts against COVID-19 was highlighted as noteworthy along with the efforts to bring down emissions to net-zero if the resources become accessible.

Taking to Twitter, UNFCCC Executive Secretary said that the updated and enhanced NDC and aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that net-zero emission targets are a good beginning to the Maldives' efforts to combat climate change, and reaffirmed that the nation would be moving forward with more optimistic climate goals in the future.
