In special anti-drug operations in the atolls by the Maldives Police Service, eight people have been arrested with illegal drugs.
Police said that the operation was conducted in Noonu Atoll Velidhoo, Thaa Atoll Vilufushi, Dhaalu Atoll Kudahuvadhoo and Meemu Atoll Veyvah.
Among these operations, the one in Velidhoo was conducted yesterday following information about a group of people using illegal drugs inside an abandoned house on the island where four men of the ages 31, 32, 34 along with two men of 36-year-old were arrested searched to find six packets of suspected illegal drugs.
The operation in VIlufushi was conducted following an intelligence report on drug possession and a 27-year-old man was arrested and searched to find six rubber packets of suspected drugs on him. The suspected was taken to the Vilufushi Magistrate Court where he was remanded by ten days.
Police said that the operation in Kudahuvadhoo was conducted on 25 December 2020 where a 20-year-old was arrested and searched at the station to find two cellophane pieces of suspected drugs inside a bag in his possession. He was remanded by the remanded by 15 days.
And the operation in Veyvah saw a 39-year-old arrested and the police searched a box on the island harbor to find a rubber packet of suspected drugs along with two 500 ml bottles of suspected alcohol. The suspect was remanded by seven days.
The cases are being investigated further by the Police.
